Sony launched four new high end Sony Bravia BluRay recorders in Japan today with the ability to burn a 50GB dual layer BluRay disc with addition built in storage ranging from 250GB to 500GB depending on the model selected. Read more
This amazes me. Let me give you a little background. UMD is Sony’s proprietary format for the Play Station Portable. About two years ago I was one of only two people in our office to program these torture devices. Now don’t get me wrong, in a sense they are kind of cool. But honestly, for the price to make and the price for the consumer they are painful little devices. A lot of work goes into programming these bad boys. In fact, their menu development closely mirrors HD-DVD. Read more

After my previous rant about the confusing format war and digital distribution being the wave of the future, New Medium Enterprises has decided it would be a good idea to bless the world with yet another high def optical format: HD-VMD. Read more
The CHDA (China High Definition Association) has announced that the OMNERC (Optical Memory National Engineering Research Center) has developed a new HD-DVD format called CH-DVD based on the standard HD-DVD formate. It seems that it will be the format for Chinese owned intellectual property. In other words, it doesn’t matter to anyone outside of China but why not throw one more format into the mix.
